What does revolution look like in everyday life?
What do people carry with them through change?
How can making and gathering together help communities move forward?

Stitch Buffalo is partnering with Humanities New York on Speaking of Revolution, a facilitated Community Conversation that is part of a statewide initiative exploring how people and communities experience change and renewal.

At Stitch Buffalo, this larger theme will connect with the organization’s work in textile arts and community-building. Participants will reflect on how creative practice can help people tell stories, build relationships, and imagine what comes next.

During the conversation, participants might consider questions such as: What does revolution look like in everyday life? What do people carry with them through change? How can making and gathering together help communities move forward?

Speaking of Revolution is Humanities New York’s contribution to By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, a series of community-driven programs created by humanities councils across the United States and its territories in collaboration with local partners. These programs explore 250 years of the nation’s cultural life and imagine its shared future. The initiative was developed by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage as a complement to the 2026 Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

These conversations create space to exchange ideas and think together in good faith. Participants should expect to actively contribute and engage with perspectives that may differ from their own.
