English paper piecing (or EPP) is a hand sewing technique that allows you to precisely assemble small pieces of fabric into a variety of complex patterns. During this class, we’ll be working with hexagons to create a patch you can use as an appliqué for a t-shirt, jeans, tote bag, or other project. It’s perfect for covering an unwanted logo on an otherwise nice piece, or making a nice looking repair to conceal a hole/stain.
Through this simple project, you’ll learn the basics of creating paper templates, prepping pieces for assemblage (cutting, folding, basting, pressing), and hand piecing with needle and thread. EPP is a great way to use up small fabric scraps, experiment with textile design, or enhance your mending practice. It’s also highly portable—so if you’re looking for a “do it anywhere” kind of sewing project, EPP might be for you!
