Learn the timeless art of knitting, with essential techniques and skills that will serve as the building blocks for your knitting journey. Designed for beginners, this course offers a structured approach to mastering the craft. Join us as we delve into the fundamentals of knitting and unlock the creative possibilities that await you. This class is appropriate for ages 16+.

Session 1

  • Learn the knit stitch on a prepared starter

  • Practice the knit stitch by continuing to knit our starter

  • Discuss common mistakes and how to avoid/fix them

  • Learn garter stitch

Session 2

  • Learn the purl stitch, continuing with our starter

  • Practicing the purl stitch by continuing to purl our starter

  • Discuss common mistakes and how to avoid/fix them

  • Learn stockinette stitch

Session 3

  • Learn to bind off our starter

  • Cast on a new starter

  • Learn K2, P2 ribbing

  • Learn moss stitch

Session 4
Now that you know how to knit and purl, you can do anything! We will explore some additional maneuvers to take your knitting to the next level.

  • Yarn overs

  • Slip stitches

  • Increasing and decreasing

  • Understanding written knitting patterns

  • Binding off alternatives

INSTRUCTOR:
Linda Collignon is an avid spinner, weaver, felter and all around lover of all things fiber. She has taught fiber design at universities, conferences, guilds, and at her studio Raveloe Fibers. Her work can be found in various corners of the world, but she works and creates in her hometown of Buffalo, NY.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Due to the nature of this class and the preparation required, class fees are non-refundable.

For each class, Stitch Buffalo offers one seat at half-price to a student or community member who otherwise could not afford to attend. To inquire about availability, please e-mail us. We have waiting lists for many classes, so if you register for this discounted class, please consider it a commitment to attend. Discount is limited to two per customer per calendar year.
