In many cultures, it is believed that small talismans and amulets bring luck and happiness. Such small items may be attached to clothing or woven into fabrics and carpets to bestow blessings and keep away harm. Stitch Buffalo’s house blessings are created in this tradition.

As each artist hand-stitches within the basic arched space, she expresses her personal aesthetic and integrates forms from her cultural traditions. As a result, each house blessing is one of a kind. Each stitch represents a blessing to the family and friends under its protection.

These items are each lovingly crafted in our studio or in the home of a resettled refugee woman from Buffalo, NY. All Stitch Buffalo products are made using upcycled materials, donated by the community and provided to our artists at no charge.

ABOUT THIS ORNAMENT
House blessings are constructed of felt panels, which are hand-embroidered and/or beaded by each artist. The artist then assembles the panels, using hand stitching, and adds tassels plus a decorative ribbon or string loop for hanging.

Size: The main arched panel is 5 inches wide x 5.5 inches tall. The tassels plus hanging loop add additional height.
