In this two-part class, you’ll learn how to design, carve, and print your own repeating pattern on fabric. From foundational linoleum carving techniques to designing tessellating patterns, this class will guide you step-by-step through the entire creative process.

Whether you’re completely new to block printing or looking to refine your skills, this course builds a strong technical foundation while introducing thoughtful design strategies for repeating patterns. Your final project will be a block design on a 28×28-inch cotton tea towel

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

  • How to make a pattern repeat seamlessly

  • Use carving tools safely and effectively

  • Transfer designs onto your block

  • Design and carve a rotationally symmetrical block

  • Test print and refine your block

  • Align your rotationally symmetrical block to create a seamless repeat pattern

SKILLS REQUIRED:
No previous experience is required.

INSTRUCTOR:
Devin Feeley is Studio Manager at Stitch Buffalo and an experience block-printing instructor. She is a graduate of Kent State University with a B.S. in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Sustainability, she has worked with organizations including Aille Design, Fig Buffalo, and A Magazine. She also enjoys ceramics and crochet, two practices that reflect her love for creativity and making by hand.

Due to the nature of this class and the preparation required, class fees are non-refundable.

For each class, Stitch Buffalo offers one seat at half-price to a student or community member who otherwise could not afford to attend. To inquire about availability, please e-mail us. We have waiting lists for many classes, so if you register for this discounted class, please consider it a commitment to attend. Limited to two discounts per person per calendar year.
