Community Class Instructors

Hand Sewing and Mending Instructor

Independent Contractor (1099)
Compensation:
$35 per hour
Buffalo, NY

Job Description
This instructor will lead 1–2 community classes per month covering skills including basic hand stitches (running stitch; backstitch; whip stitch; slip/ladder stitch; and blanket stitch) as well as how to patch small holes, repair hems, sew on buttons, and fix open seams. Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated abilities in hand sewing (sample photos of past work) 

  • Knowledge of clothing repairs and alterations

  • Prior teaching experience is helpful but not required

Intermediate/Advanced Needlework Instructor

Independent Contractor (1099)

Job Description
This instructor will lead 1–2 community classes per month covering intermediate/advanced needlework skills in their area(s) of expertise. These could include embroidery, cross-stitch, needlepoint, bargello, thread painting, goldwork, blackwork, stumpwork, crewel, candlewicking, ribbon embroidery, or any other specialty technique. Beginner Quilting

Independent Contractor (1099)
Compensation:

Job Description
This instructor will lead regular community classes covering fundamental techniques for beginning quilters (with basic sewing machine skills). This includes: selecting materials; accurate cutting and assembly of basic blocks; sandwiching the backing, batting, and top; basic quilting techniques for hand and machine sewing; approaches to binding and project finishing.
