When Stitch Buffalo began in 2014 as a weekly embroidery workshop for refugee women, one of our first projects was called “Stitched Stories.” Participants used hand embroidery to create images of their lives at home—before they were upended by violence, war, and genocide. Many of these original pieces are now collected in our Remembering Home series, which has been displayed in numerous exhibits.

Nearly ten years later, and in preparation for our own move to a new home, we wanted to revisit this project from a new perspective. This time, we asked members of the Refugee Women’s Workshop to stitch images of their new home. We created a vision board (seen in the photos to the left) featuring iconic locations around Buffalo—and even visited some of them with the artists.

Each piece is a one-of-a-kind, hand-embroidered original, ready for display. When it’s gone, it’s gone—so choose yours today!
