A Scrappy Little Vessel: Inspired by Japanese "Boro"—October 4, 2025 (1:00–4:00pm)

$50.00

Learn to transform scrap fabric into a hand-stitched vessel you can use as a thread catcher, to hold rings on your nightstand, or for a variety of other small objects. This project is inspired by a Japanese technique called “boro,” which involve patching and repairing textiles using layers of fabric and simple running stitches (“sashiko”). The term "boro" itself means "tattered" or "repaired," reflecting the practice of using worn-out fabrics to create new, durable textiles. It's a sustainable method of extending the life of textiles, often resulting in unique, textured pieces.

SKILLS NEEDED
Basic hand-sewing skills are helpful but not required.

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES
All tools and supplies will be provided. However, students are also welcome to bring any special fabric scraps, trims, or threads they would like to include in their project.
