Understanding Sewing Patterns (Commercial and PDF)—May 14, 2026 (4:30pm–6:30pm)

$40.00

Ready to take the mystery out of sewing patterns? This beginner/intermediate class is designed for machine sewists who want to start using commercial and PDF sewing patterns with confidence and clarity.

Participants will learn how to “read” a sewing pattern—from understanding pattern envelopes and instruction sheets to decoding the symbols, markings, and terminology that often feel overwhelming at first. We’ll cover sizing and fit basics, pattern layouts, grainlines, seam allowances, and how to follow step-by-step construction instructions without losing your place.

This class will also introduce best practices for working with PDF patterns, including printing, assembling, and organizing digital files. Along the way, we’ll share practical tips for approaching patterns calmly and methodically, helping you build skills and confidence that carry over to future projects.

By the end of the class, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how patterns work and feel more empowered to choose, prepare, and sew from patterns on your own. Basic machine sewing experience required. (Note: This is a non-sewing class. It is strictly about learning to read patterns.)
